Balchik Botanical Garden is the second most important attraction in the city, after the Queen Mary Castle. This is located in the city center, in the immediate vicinity of the sea and at a relatively small distance from most hotels in the resort. The garden belongs to the castle of Queen Maria, being built and arranged immediately after the completion of the castle, by the Swiss Jules Janine, the head gardener of the Russian emperor Nickolai II. Arranged on approximately 16 hectares, the garden is arranged on a steep hill that descends into six terraces to the sea representing one for each of the queen’s children. More than 3000 plant species are grown in the garden, which are part of 35 flower families and 800 genera that make up an incredible variety of varieties and forms.
